A distelfink is a stylized goldfinch. It frequently appears in Pennsylvania Dutch folk art as a common theme in hex signs and in fraktur.
It is a symbol for happiness and good fortune. The word 'distelfink' (literally 'thistle-finch') is the German name for the European goldfinch. The tulip painted on the front stands for faith, hope, charity and trust in mankind.
